In Light of the Steroid Scandal
Do a Show on the Hidden History of Cheating in
Baseball
Anyone who even remotely follows American Sports had an opinion about
the explosive charges by some former players that steroids and other performance-enhancing
drugs are common in today’s game. But is this just the tip of the
iceberg? As Mike Looney will reveal, baseball has always taken a “wink-wink”
approach with some of its most famous cheaters. The unwritten rule, for
nearly 100 years, was always simply this: “Don’t get caught.”
Has that all changed?
Get ready for a revealing show as Looney discusses:
- The hidden methods of cheating the public DOESN’T know about
(hint: the spitball is not dead, and neither are corked bats-but not
in the way you think).
- Who the true culprits in the current steroid scandal really are-do
the fans (or the commissioner) have to share at least some of the blame?
- How players who use steroids for an extra edge stack up against some
of the all-time cheaters in the sport.
